Obsolete Versions Of VB, Basic &
Other Compilers

This
is a third party review on where to find
Free Obsolete Versions Of VB, Basic
& Other Compilers.

I
discovered these programming sites with
obsolete editor/compilers while digging
around the web the other day.

I was
especially fond of discovering http://imaginatica.us.es/~wopr2k/qbdl/
because they have every version of basic
compiler that Microsoft manufactured
from the beginning up to VB4. These
programs are obsolete &
discontinued. Most of these files are
zipped up floppy disks so they may take
a little finagling to get setup. I
tested VBDOS & VB for windows 1,2,3
2 was the trickiest to get setup. Simply
read the file HOW TO INSTALL.txt
included in the zip file & it
contains the trick. You may also want to
pay special attention to the file named
PACKING.LST , it is a text file.

I was
also impressed to find this section at
Borland to obtain free complimentary
copies of their older obsolete
compilers. http://community.borland.com/museum/

Well
now you know where to get older
compilers, now your going to need some
old code samples to go with them. LOL
The last & final site in this review
is http://www.bbs.motion-bg.com . The
Sore online BBS has a ton of old
obsolete source code.

By
this time I guess your pretty much
getting the picture, I was looking into
building DOS 5 applications & that's
what took me on this journey. Even thou
I was able to find & setup all these
compilers I still was not able to find a
32 bit front-end editor for VBDOS. Which
is what I truly want. Yes folks I am
searching for a 32 bit RAD editor built
for a 8 bit DOS compiler. Seems like
everyone was so busy moving forward they
lost track of the extreme importance of
backwards compatibility. If anyone knows
where I can find source code for one
please contact me!
