Pusher - Troubleshooting
Just a quick post to help with troubleshooting problems you might encounter while running Pusher.
Problem: Name resolution fails
Things to Check:
- SysAdmin workstation networked properly?
- Target powered on?
- Target networked properly?
- Target registered properly with DNS/WINS?
Sometimes DNS cache on the SysAdmin workstation can become stale. You can try opening a command prompt, and typing the following:
IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS
This will flush out the local DNS cache.
Problem: Ping Fails
Things to Check:
- ICMP Allowed?
- SysAdmin workstation networked properly?
- Target powered on?
- Target networked properly?
- No route to client?
If you think Pusher is malfunctioning, try opening a command prompt and pinging the target manually. If the target responds, you may try increasing the ping wait time in the Pusher options dialog.
Problem: File/Path Failures
Things to check:
- Does the account you are using to run Pusher have rights to the administrative share on the target?
- Does the administrative share (C$) exist on the target?
Problem: Task Scheduling Failures
Things to check:
- Does the account you are using to run Pusher have rights to schedule tasks on the target?
- Does the account you are using to run Pusher have rights to access the services on the target?
- Is the Task Scheduler service running on the target?
